Dogwood's Virtual Summer Learning Opportunities

Dogwood and FCPS are offering the following optional opportunities to support student learning throughout the summer months.

Mathematics and Literacy Continuity of Learning 

Dates: June 29-July 31, 2020

Prior to June 29, all students in grades K-6 will receive workbooks in reading and mathematics. Digital versions of the books will also be posted on the Continuity of Learning Blackboard page.

These books will provide recommended practice activities for students to review essential content from the 2019-2020 school year; they are not intended to preview content for next year’s grade level but rather reinforce essential learning from this past year. Materials will not be collected or graded.

Grade Level Office Hours

As students access these activities from June 29 to July 31, they will have the opportunity to attend virtual office hours each week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with our outstanding staff members. 

  • Kindergarten: Tuesday - 10:30 to 11 a.m. and Thursday - 2 to 3:30 p.m.
  • Grade 1:  Tuesday- 10:30 to 11 a.m. and Thursday - 2 to 2:30 p.m.
  • Grade 2:  Tuesday - 11 to 11:30 a.m.and Thursday - 2:00 to 2:30 p.m.
  • Grade 3:  Tuesday - 2 to 2:30 p.m.and Thursday - 10:30 to 11 a.m.
  • Grade 4:  Tuesday - 2 to 2:30 p.m.and Thursday - 10:30 to 11 a.m.
  • Grade 5:  Tuesday - 11 to 11:30 a.m.and Thursday - 1 to 1:30 p.m.
  • Grade 6:  Tuesday - 10:30 to 11 a.m. and Thursday - 2:30 to 3 p.m.

Registration

Students must be registered to receive the secure link to participate in office hours.To register your student, please complete THIS FORM by June 22nd. Once registered, your child will receive log-in information via their FCPS Google email address prior to the first session. 

ESOL

Dates: June 29-July 31, 2020

Prior to June 29, all English Learners (ELs) in kindergarten will receive an English Language Development Summer Practice Book. Students with a home or correspondence language of Spanish will receive the Summer Practice Book in Spanish.

ELs in grades 1-6 with an English Language Development (ELP) Level of 1 or 2 will receive an ELD Summer Practice Book. Students with a home or correspondence language of Spanish will receive the Summer Practice Book in Spanish.

Digital versions of the books will also be posted on the Continuity of Learning Blackboard page.

Students may attend weekly office hours on Tuesdays from 10:30-11:00 a.m. and Thursdays from 2:00 -2:30 p.m

Registration

i-Ready

Students will have access to skill practice through the iReady digital lessons through the FCPS public Universal Screener website, as well as continued access to learning apps currently used. Students will need to enter their FCPS login credentials to access these resources. These digital activities will be available until Friday, July 31. View a video with more information. 

Fine Arts 

Dates: July 6-August 7, 2020

A free online fine arts enrichment program will be offered for five weeks. For elementary students, the classes include art, stitchery and weaving, Claymation and recycled art, music, drumming, theater, and dance. 

The Fine Arts Summer Learning Program is available at this Google site, which students must use their FCPS email address in order to access the site. The address would be the students ID number followed by @fcpsschools.net. Registration is not required.
