February 2, 2021 School Board update

On February 2, the Fairfax County School Board gave unanimous support for an updated timeline that will offer all students the opportunity to return to school buildings two days a week beginning February 16 through March 16.  

Below you will find FCPS general information on the Return to School plan as well as Dogwood ES specific information including our new bell schedule which begins on February 16, the return to school dates, teacher planning days (asynchronous learning only), and more!

Dogwood ES Return to School Information

Grade Level Return to School Parent Meetings (Dates and Times)

Save the date for the following return to school parent meetings to hear details about your child's day including: schedule, supplies, and breakfast & lunch, etc. as we return safely to in-person learning.

Whole School: February 9 @ 5:30 pm

Groups 1-5 (EHS, HS, Kindergarten):  February 17 @ 5:30 pm

Group 6 (Grades 1 and 2):  March 4 @ 5:30 pm

Group 7 (Grades 3 - 6):  March 11 @ 5:30 pm

Return to School Dates by Grade Level

Students who have selected in-person instruction, will return to school in a phased-in approach starting February 16 (see below for Return to School dates by grade level)

Mondays will be asynchronous and virtual for all.  On Tuesdays through Fridays, they have 2 days in person and 2 days virtual and synchronous.  Your child will receive their specific days.

Grades Pre-K - 6: 9:00am - 3:30pm

Teacher Planning Days by Grade Level

Teacher planning days are still school days. They are asynchronous, independent learning days. Like Mondays, all students are expected to log in to their Google Classroom and complete the Google attendance form and proceed with their asynchronous (independent) assignments.

Mondays

Mondays will still be a full day of independent/asynchronous learning for all students to give our classroom teachers time to prepare and plan the week’s lessons. 

All Dogwood Elementary School students are required to log in to their Google Classroom, complete the Google Attendance form, and proceed with their independent/asynchronous assignments provided by their classroom teacher.

Return to School Groups

FCPS has created “groups” to clarify which students will return to in-person instruction based on certain health and operational requirements being met. The chart below defines which group a student is assigned to based on their grade level and/or the specific courses, programs, or services they are accessing. If you have questions about which group your child is assigned to, please contact your child’s school.
